Home Run, Venice
What is the Home Run?

A more affordable 100km Stage, shared with others.

Every now and then we pick a Stage and turn it into a Home Run. The Home Run is intended to welcome a larger set of runners on a stage and further democratize Follow The Coast, allowing anyone who wants to run a Stage. The Home Run is also an opportunity for the community to meet, as it will be followed by a Rest day which we will use to get together for a nice lunch & some drinks.

The first Home Run, will be held in Venice, on Monday, 20-04-2026

The Home Run

Not everyone wants to run by themselves or find a way back to the starting point after running a 100km. The Home Run is for those who still want to be part of Follow the Coast without the logistics or big travel days but with the added cheer of a group of runners running the same route.

Same formula, easier logistics. Begin and end point are close to Venice so getting there and back is easy.

You run with others who signed up, each at their own pace. It’s more a regular running event, yet still guaranteeing you a coveted spot in our list of shoreholders.

Along the way, there are checkpoints every 15 km with food, drinks, and support. You get a GPX route, we carry your small pack, and you do the running. Together with the other participants you’re moving us another 100km closer to running the entire European coastline.

For 199€, you get:

  • a fixed GPX route
  • food, drinks, and checkpoint support
  • transport for your personal pack
  • a start near a big city for easy access
  • a meet-up with the community the next day
  • your name printed in the Follow the Coast book as Shoreholder of this stage

Unlike the full stages, there’s no van following you and no guaranteed photos. You just run your stage, share the route with others, and become part of the story.

It’s straightforward, affordable, and will be an amazing opportunity for the community to come together. A good way to test yourself, to become part of the project, and to see what it feels like to move with the coast for a day.

Why do we do this?

When we put new Stages online, they are sold out in a matter of days. It’s simply incredible to see this momentum and enthusiasm. This also means today that some people might be left behind. Some might have seen their favourite Stage claimed by someone else. Some might find the registration price too high Some might find it hard to find companions to run 100km with.

For all these people, - and to get the community together - we are testing the concept of the Home Run.

By making one stage available for unlimited people for a lower price, we hope to support more people.

The first Home Run

The first one will be held in Venice on Monday, 20th April 2026 The start is held at 7am at the start of the bridge, accessible for pedestrians. to the floating city of Venice. After 35 km of enjoying Venice’s historical beauty, we will head back to the mainland which we will reach 40 km in the Stage. On the mainland, we will run along flat river side roads, passing the airport at 70km. We will finish 60 km Northeast from Venice in La Vezze di Venezia.

When is the test successful?

For the Home Run, we will need to engage more support crew to enable the operations of the checkpoints, to support the different paces of the participants. More support crew means more logistics & lodging cost.

We therefore believe that we need a minimum of 7 runners to make this concept viable. If the test is successful, we will likely book the Home Run concept later down the road in Athens and Istanbul.
